This expressive textile collection is made to bring awareness to The Great Barrier Reef, which is critically affected by rising sea temperatures, coral bleaching and increased human activity. These designs are formed of marine animals and coral that have been listed as endangered. Some of these include: Whale shark, Tiger Shark, Tawny Nurse Shark, Manta Ray, Clown fish, Seahorse, mushroom and brain coral. I have visited aquariums for inspiration, observing a variety of marine animals, intricate coral layouts and colour inspiration for my designs. The intended purpose of these designs is for interior, especially seaside cottages. These designs are made for bedrooms and communal living areas. These designs are made with sustainability and longevity in mind; therefore, the processes you will see throughout this portfolio include digital printing, hand embellishments and procion printing.
